This article from the Waunakee Tribune, written by Bob Khouri, details the reuse of the Nordeng family barn. The barn, which had sat outside the creek on the property south of Norway Grove Memorial Lutheran Church in Wisconsin, was constructed in 1946 using oak. Rilco rafters of Minnesota re-purposed the oak from the barn for a distillery in Madison, called State Line Distillery.
A historic barn located in Lake Elmo, MN has had a proposal rejected by the city council to allow the Schiltgen farm to operate as a horse-boarding facility. The owners feel that a boarding facility needs to be built on the property to generate income, in order to continue preserving the historic landmark.
FOMB members are urged to contact the Lake Elmo City Council about preserving this landmark. The Council Members' contact information can be found here.
